ТНЕ FIGURE OF “GERGE” IN THE TRADITIONAL CULTURE OF THE VILLAGE DRYANOVO, LAKI MUNICIPALITY

Summary/Abstract: The complicated historical fate of the Bulgarian Muslims living in the region of the Middle Rhodopi mountain resulted in the creation of specific ethnic, confessional and sociocultural phenomena. Ay a part of the folklore they can be seen in the structure of the local conceptual picture of the world. This work reveals the place of the cult center “Gerge” in the folk believes of the Bulgarian Muslims from the village of Dryanovo, Laki municipality. The work is aimed at revealing the genesis, the development and the present condition of the holy place using archaeological and ethnological evidence collected through a field study in 1991–1994. The primary materials are deposed in the Archives of the ‘Ongal’ Association of Anthropology, Ethnology and Folklore Studies as well as in the local public Archives of the regional center Laki.
