Summary/Abstract: The author makes a presentation of the discussions that took place at The European Court of Human Rights about the juridical aspect of the situations in which people have invoked the right to die. From a juridical perspective, Romanian law forbids active euthanasia, which consists in a medical intervention deliberately performed to end life on patient’s request. In its jurisprudence, The European Court has laid emphasis on the state’s obligation to protect life. The text presents cases of people who have requested the right to die.
