Summary/Abstract: The situation ofhuman rights in the Republic of Macedonia is determined by: global social-economic movements, changes related to consolidating the system of democratic institutions and mechanisms as well as the establishment of the rule of law. In past two years, the agreed standards of the Ohrid Framework Agreement (signed by four major political parties in 2001 as a solution for the armed conflict in Macedonia) made a big contribution in this area. Minor changes in past period, related to promotion and protection of human right are made in social, economic and labor sphere. From a social - economical standpoint, Republic of Macedonia has not succeeded in raising the living standard, accomplishing the right for and of employment or social protection of unemployed persons of vulnerable groups that need this kind of assistance. The poverty is furthermore determined as a basic obstacle in practicing and accomplishing basic citizens rights and freedoms in Republic of Macedonia. Principle concern is that poverty is not identified as high priority when it comes to protection of human rights and freedoms.
