Summary/Abstract: George Orwell’s list of English “crypto-communists” was made public as late as 2003. It gave birth to hot debates both before and after, some voices having accused Orwell of having been an informer of the secret police. The author explains the special circumstances in which Orwell draw up and handed over the list and the broader political context of that time. He concludes that the accusation is groundless.
