Summary/Abstract: In this paper the author interpretes Buber’s philosophy starting from the central role of the thought figure of relationship. Whereas the essence of the modern era can be understood by the interpretation of Faust’s assertion „At the beginning there was the deed“, so the way out from the impasse in which the mankind has stuck in can be searched in the revitalization of the human potential to make relationship with other person. After having set forth Buber’s distinction between the impersonal I-It stance, where I is reduced to ego and subject, and therelationship between I and You, the author shows the way the figure of the relationship can be applied to phenomena such as reification, dialogue, community, culture, religion and history. The author agrees with the Jewish philosopher that in the basis of the current crisis of meaning is neglect of relationship, especially with the eternal You.
