Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on Stanislav Stratiev’s second play - The Suede Jacket and its stage realization in the State Satirical Theater during the season 1976-1977 by the director Mladen Kiselov. The accent is on the stage production’s perception during the 1970s. The author traces what kind of interpretative approach was chosen by the critics – i.e. the voice of ‘the ruling ones’ and what opposite interpretations were made by voices ‘from bellow’ – i.e. the audience. Subject of discussion was the context in which such a perception palimpsest exists as well as its complex structure. Of interest is also how ant to what extent the emblematic performance by Mladen Kiselov managed to fall and stay in the specific conflict zone regarding those institutions of power the function of which was to validate the dominant meanings.
