Summary/Abstract: The last two decades introduced some serious changes in the dramaturgical text and the theatrical performance, and quite categorically in the relationship between those two. The importance of these changes in the Bulgarian theatrical practice has been additionally augmented by the overall social and cultural transformation in our country after 1989. Subject of the study is the dynamic and based on new consensus-type of relations between the postdramatic text for the theater and the theatrical performance in Bulgaria during the last two decades. A complex research strategy has been used which has been focused mainly on the comparison between the implicitly set type of theatricality in one modern dramaturgical text and its stage realization. The analysis is based on emblematic examples from the Bulgarian theater practice from the last two decades – 4.48 Psychosis by Sarah Kane directed by Desislava Shpatova and The Apocalypses Comes at 6 PM by Georgi Gospodinov in the stage interpretation of Margarita Mladenova. The key hypothesis, formulated by the text is that in its greater part modern (including Bulgarian) drama is a specific program for the creation of a new theater situation which offers a specific, intensive ‘theatrical interpretation’. This is the basis both of exciting encounters as well as of boring misunderstandings between text for the theater and theater today.
