Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this study is to search for an answer to the question of how the imaginary map of the Bulgarian homeland was drawn during the last century under Ottoman rule. For this very purpose, the text offers a summary of the results of an analysis of the 41 geography textbooks from the period in question, as well as of about 130 descriptions of population centers published in the press. The research is focused on two main points: 1) the import of patterns standardizing the ideas of imaginary space organization; 2) the different representation of the ethnical diversity in minor and bigger population centers.
