Summary/Abstract: Agriculture plays a crucial role in sustainable development because it depends on natural resources, specifically on the land. The purpose of the article is to evaluate the changes of a capital and labor productivity in the agriculture sector in Poland during the 1995–2006 period in relation to other sectors and to identify its developmental tendencies. The author enquires if these tendencies fit the sustainable development paradigm? In order to achieve the purpose resources productivity and consumption indices were constructed using input-output tables (published by CSO and Eurostat for agriculture in Poland). the empirical analysis has confirmed the article’s hypothesis that potential capital productivity in agriculture is higher than in other sectors. Thus, if return on assets rates in a market economy converge in a long term, the above-average productivity of capital in agriculture generates land rent, i.e. it remunerates the land factor. It confirms the presence of tendencies described by the sustainable development paradigm , where natural resources gain utility for consumers.
