SELECTED ASPECTS OF QUANTITATIVE STUDIES

Summary/Abstract: The article discusses selected fragments of a corpus-based analysis of Internet chat room lexis. First, the author presents previously used methodologies for Internet communication studies. After that, he describes the methodology he used in his research. At this point, the reader becomes acquainted with the most crucial characteristics of the created corpus of Internet chats. Further, the author goes on to delineate selected elements of quantitative studies on chat room lexis. He begins with the portrayal of corpus statistics. Then, he proceeds to discuss non-standard spelling, after which, he reports on the most important observations as for the characteristics of chat room lexis.
