Summary/Abstract: The aim of article is to show the semantic and pragmatic potential of the word swine in Polish and Russian languages. Collected material comes from description, jargon and dialect dictionaries. Above material reflects both Polish an Russian literary languages as variations in both languages. The article presents the image of a swine in culture and shows the linguistic depiction of the animal referring to its culinary likings.
