Summary/Abstract: The monograph aims to describe the stabilized, reproducible phraseological units, which are within boundaries of widely understood phraseology. They are supplemented by examples from lexis level, the analysis itself is set in the cultural context. Based on the Polish and Russian languages data, which exceeds two and a half thousand exemplifications, the Author, with the help of cognitive definition method, recreates phraseological portraits of the five most popular species of farm animals: a horse, cow, pig, sheep and goat. On their basis an important part of linguistic world picture is shown, revealing above all the system of appraisal, values, experiences and attitudes of Russians and Poles. The analysed units on one hand reflect the ways of perceiving certain species of our minor brothers by homo sapiens on the other hand mark the place and manner of existence of humans themselves in the area of language. The Author’s objective is to present linguistic portraits of farm animals with the wealth of associations, symbols, metaphors connected with them, at the same time contrasting data derived from the Polish and Russian languages. This monograph is to mirror human vision of the world. It makes a man the agent acting and simultaneously building the texture of language. «Tracking human traces» in the layer of the stabilized phraseological units becomes the theme of the Author’s exploration.
