Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the broad range of critical responses to Orwell’s 1984 in order to offer a framework of reference for the central themes present in the novel. Seen as socio-political commentary, a warning message and sometimes hinting towards the writing of a radical Swift, the book still remains relevant today.
