Summary/Abstract: In the introductory, the author presents the object of scientific reflection and defines relevant literary-theoretical terms. Certainly, one of the most important theorists of the Spanish naturalism, Leopoldo Alas Clarín, wrote series of essays and articles which deal with naturalism from different perspectives. When it comes to naturalism, Clarín represents the renewed current of naturalism, which dismisses certain original assumptions but at the same time he modifies them, adjusting them to the Spanish environment. This paper deals with the relation between realism, naturalism (in the general meaning of these terms) and the novel La Regenta. This novel is a work that was not adequately valued in the previous decades.
