Summary/Abstract: The article presents contemporary theories and research on authoritarianism connected with the right-wing authoritarianism theory and the concept of the social dominance orientation. It presents Bob Altemeyer’s main conclusions on the definition and the development of right-wing authoritarianism as well as basic claims of the social dominance theory and the meaning of one of its crucial concepts: the social dominance orientation. The article also points out the differences and similarities between these two theories as well as the connection between right-wing authoritarianism and the social dominance orientation and prejudice.
