Yet, for America’s first feminists of the nineteenth century, the Bible was the basis for their beliefs in the equality of the races and the sexes. [...] The purpose of this study is to examine the biblical basis of emerging feminist thought in nineteenth-century America. The significance of this study lies in its analysis of the actual words written or spoken by these women or the transcriptions of their speeches instead of relying on secondary research about them. ..."
