Summary/Abstract: The present article analyzes Psellos’ commentary on the disarray of the Byzantine army in the Chronographia. The topic is examined in relation to the political circumstances of the time, and the author’s own particular situation. It is possible to conclude that much of his commentary on the military in the Chronographiais disingenuous and is influenced by his own position and interests.
