Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses aspects of the traditional worldviews of people living in Bozhenitsa village in the Municipality of Botevgrad. The analysis is based on the fi eldwork carried out by ‘Ongal’ Association in 2000– 2001. In the process of work we noticed that what is considered a sacred space in this village evidences a stable Orthodox Christian tradition dating from the period before the Ottoman conquest of the Bulgarian lands (1396). In the same time we could not fi nd evidence of a direct cultural, spiritual, and material continuity between a) the Late-Antique and Medieval fortress Urvich (located in the region of Bozhenica) and b) the origin and development of the present village Bozhenica.
