Summary/Abstract: The local elections selecting representatives responsible for implementation defined social objectives are of paramount importance, since it is a local authority who’s closest to the everyday problems of the average citizen. At the local level there are created „foundations” of civil socjety – active, able to acting independently, identifying and attaining its objectives without the need of motivation on the part of state authorities. The starting point ofthe material presented are theoretical findings, especially in the regulation relating to local government elections. Two other parts include the election of local resolution-making authorities and the direct election of village mayors, mayors of towns and presidents of cities. The article is found on the data of the State Election Commission as the basis for analysis. Pointed out the similarities and differences in the local elections held in 2006-2010 in the Provence of Silesia, referring them to the national results.
