Summary/Abstract: The number of women at self-government authorities is growing systematically. Still, this level is too low to make it possible to talk about sex equality in this subject. The purpose of the present article is to reply to the basic question: whether election campaigns of women and men who are making a start in elections of mayors and presidents of cities are different? The author starts her deliberations from the quantitative analysis of applying candidates, making the sex the basic variable of the examined data of the State Election Commission. The next part of the article presents an election campaign of chosen women and men who take part in the elections of cities’ mayors and presidents in the self-government units of the Silesian Voivodeship. The elements used in the self-government election campaign were indicated and the resemblances and differences between representatives of both sexes trying to win voters’ support in the elections were determined.
