Summary/Abstract: Upper Silesia is the special case of cultural, religious and national borderline. The land, about which already before World War II the researchers said that was „corner, where increased different layers of awareness”. The region and its identity developed primarily under the influence of three cultures: Polish, German and Czech. The result is a unique combination of various traditions, myths, systems of values , mentality, customs, ethnic and national identity. However, Upper Silesia stereotypically associated primarily with the broadly understood mining and metallurgical industry, the lack of green spaces and a very large German minority, a fact that as a result of simple associations frequently led to simplifications such as: Silesian-ness = Germanness.
