Summary/Abstract: The article presents and critically analyses John Searle’s concept of the construction of social reality. It presents main thesis of this concept, especially the idea of the decisive meaning of language for the creation of the ontology of social reality. In his last works, Searl concentrates on some key from his view point features of the speech actions which enable the existence of society. Searle’s concept however provokes many controversies some of which are discussed in the article. In the final part of his text the author compares Searle’s concept to other social theories which situate the language at the base of social life.
