Summary/Abstract: The article aims at expanding a literary studies reflection on the written text based on the works from outside of the discipline: those by Paul Saenger, Robert Bringhurst and Stanislas Dehaene, among others, as well as the artistic works by Heinz Gappmayr, Derek Beaulieu and Christian Dotremont. The texts discussed show an impossibility of limiting the written literary text to the record of speech and also point to paralinguistic elements of any written text. A script used always has many conventional, historical, material and accidental traits which can to a different degree influence the meaning, the written text itself is never fully linear. Material, non-systemic and nonconventional characteristics of some of the records are named here a parascriptue by analogy with paralanguage.
