Summary/Abstract: This paper deals with the fi erce battles that occurred between Scanderbeg forces and the Ottoman armies for the control of the important and strategic passages, such as Ohrid-Diber area. After the defi nitive establishment of the Ottoman rule, this area was included into the Ohrid sandjak’s jurisdiction. The Ottoman census of 1467, after the above-mentioned area came under Ottoman control, contains very important datas concerning the most relevant economic centers, such as Rahovniku, Castle of Kodjadjik and Peshkopia. It informs us about the reduced number of inhabitants, due to the armed confl ict between Scanderbeg and the Ottomans, it dwells with the establishment of the timar regime, the subsequent recruitment of the locals in the Ottoman army, as a result of their consipicuous military qualities, but also with the importance this area had in the eyes of the Ottomans. Later Ottoman censuses of this area, such as that of XVI century, reveal a gradual increase of the number of inhabitants, a steady rise of their revenues compared to previous periods, but also the strengthening of the islamization process. The Ottoman registers offer important datas also on Ohrid sandjak (Ohrid, Struga, Dibra, to the Adriatic coast), as an important sector of the area. They are important sources for consulting economic, social and demographic panorama of that period. Through them we can collect datas on the ethnic composition of that area, and of the ongoing religious changes.
