Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the question of the appearance, development and establishment of Cuban ethnography. The hard and complex process of creating Cuban ethnography as an independent science is described. Its development can only be understood if the complex economic, social and ethnic processes which have taken place in the island in the course of four centuries, processes which the Old World experienced over a much longer period, are taken into consideration. It is stressed that especially after the Cuban revolution in 1959 great opportunities have opened up for the development of Cuban ethnography and folklore.
