Prof. PhDr. Vladimír Sadek, CSc. was the main representative of Czech and Czechoslovak Hebrew and Jewish studies in the period after the Second World War. Most of his professional career was connected with the Jewish (State Jewish) Museum in Prague, where he started working in 1956 after graduating from the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts, Charles University in Prague. He chose to read Hebrew and Arabic Studies, as part which he soon focused on Jewish (and the related medieval Islamic) philosophy, a specialization that he remained faithful to in all stages of his professional development.
