Summary/Abstract: Using a constructivist approach, the article explores the way Russian identity has been shaped during ”the Putin era” and the interaction between state monopoly in the field of natural resources and the conduct of foreign policy. In relation to the energy dialogue between the EU and Russia, both a conflict of interests and a clash of identities and values can be identified.
