Summary/Abstract: During preparations for the exhibition of laces from the collections of the Jewish Museum in Prague, which was held at the Robert Guttmann Gallery in the summer of 2004,1) a set of eighteen textiles of similar appearance and shape were catalogued in more detail. Traditionally referred to as ‘bridal head coverings’ or ‘wedding covers’ by Museum staff, these textiles had never before been published in their entirety. As most of these textiles are decorated with intricate and unusual bobbin lace, it has become an important task for the Museum’s textile collection staff to determine more closely the function of these items and to identify the circumstances in which they were made.
