The Feast Translation of St Nicholas' Relics (9/22 May) in Serbian Manuscripts

Summary/Abstract: In this article the author publishes a newly-discovered Office for the feast Translation of St Nicholas' relics from the beginning of the sixteenth century. Its canon, different from the previously-known, contains an acrostic. Although it is not preserved in its integrity, the text of the acrostic reveals the Slavonic origin of the canon. The new¬ly-discovered office (which follows the Jerusalem Typikon) most probably appeared in the Serbian literary tradition at the time of the independence of the Serbian state through the mediation of Mount Athos.
