Short Description

The series "Starobalgarska literatura" begins with two miscellanies under this name (1971, 1977) which provoked great interest, so since 1978 the edition has become periodical. It carries research papers in the field of medieval Slavic literature and culture (in the context of the Byzantine and Latin civilizations), editions of unpublished old Slavonic literary works and their newly-discovered transcripts, critical reviews, surveys, information on national and international scientific events on Middle Ages, current bibliography. The journal maintains several rubrics (three of them permanent – Research papers, Critical reviews, and Bibliography). The most important published materials belong to the field of literary and cultural history and theory, source studies, textual criticism and source edition. Their authors are leading experts from all Bulgarian scientific institutions dealing with the medieval period, as well as young scholars. As a result of the international interest towards the classical period of the history of medieval Bulgarian and Slavic literature and culture, prominent foreign scholars regularly participate in the edition. The journal accepts only original research with scholarly contribution not submitted to other periodicals. The articles are in Bulgarian, English, Russian, German and French. Since 2005 they are accompanied with extensive summaries in English or in Bulgarian. The journal is distributed to more then 60 foreign scholarly institutions and scientific libraries in Europe and USA via subscription and international book exchange.
