Summary/Abstract: This article focuses on the tradition of biographies of Mary Magdalene de Pazzi connected with her beatification and canonization process, which took place in the seventeenth century. Thanks to the worship of Mary Magdalene several biographies were written, particularly in Italy. Among the authors there were V. Puccini (1611), A.M. Reconesi (1629), V. Cepari (1669). The structure of these biographies and the time of their publication were intentional, as they were to express a specific function at the time and to address specific members of the public. The biography of Mary Magdalene was translated into Polish and published in Poland in 1671. The translation was made on the basis of the version by Reconesi, but its analysis shows that the translator must had known the other Italian biographies and that the modifications made were justified. The comparative analysis presented in the article concentrates on the structure of Italian biographies and the Polish translation: methods of narration, proportion between purely biographical elements and the doctrinal-theological ones, as well as on some elements of the paratext such as the title, addressee and originator of the dedication, introduction by the author (translator)/ publisher. Moreover, if we take into consideration the moment when the book was edited and the relation between that fact and the beatification process, we will be able to reconstruct some intentional steps which can be called the strategy of the author/translator and the publisher.
