Summary/Abstract: The juxtaposition of various sets of findings in the course of empirical data interpretation is commonly referred to as a comparative study. Noteworthy is the far-reaching arbitrariness with which poll findings are compared and sweeping generalisations consequently formulated. Such a comparison raises well-founded concerns over the methodology of data collection. Indeed, survey results may be flawed by a number of factors that exert their influence at the stage of information gathering. This impact is controlled by research procedures. The comparison of data obtained via different research procedures may skew interpretations. Data comparability is ensured either at the stage of question formulation or data collection. In addition, the article provides an overview of different types of comparative studies.
