Summary/Abstract: Information and knowledge are understood as a strategic resource which influences the state’s sustainable economic development and competitive advantage on organizational, industrial and public levels of management. Today, information management is becoming rather a strategic than a functional tool focusing on the planning, organization, control and coordination of information, human and technological resources in order to implement the organization’s strategy. This strategic approach is applied to public institutions by seeking to create and implement a coherent information management strategy which could offer universal information to citizens and businesses, promote information reusing, optimize public institutions’ information management. The aim of the study was to analyze and evaluate the information management situation in the Lithuanian public sector. The research was funded by the Research Council of Lithuania “Information management in the Lithuanian public sector: a critical analysis and perspectives of changes” and was focused on qualitative and quantitative methods. In this article, a group of scientists presents results of a quantitative survey which was conducted using an online questionnaires and questioning the staff of Lithuanian ministries. The quantitative survey data indicate the importance of information and maturity issues in the fields of information technology use, information behavior, institutions’ information quality and the information activities of the ministries.
