Summary/Abstract: Manisa is one of the leading cities both in the Aegean Region and in Turkey, where viticulture is widespread. As opposed to the growing of table grapes and wine grapes in other regions,seedless grapes to be dried are produced in Manisa region. In the period which is analysed, seedless dried grape which formed Turkey’s traditional export product was one of the most important wealth sources in the region. Most of the seedless dried grapes grown in the Agean Region were produced in Manisa.. In 1960s, as Turkey was one of the most important dried grape exporting countries,Manisa was the center in which this product was produced. However,the level of efficiency was lower than many of the world’s grape producer countries.Being able to survive in the international market depended on the increase in output and the decrease in the output cost.Thus,instead of a traditional system viticulture, a high system which provides increase in output started to be used.For the same reason, the use of modern input such as chemical fertilizers and agricultural chemicals gradually was introduced. The goverment made support purchases by means of Tariş (Union of Agricultural Sale Cooperatives) for the growers to market grapes in their own value. Thanks to these support purchases, the continuity of the product could be achieved in the years when the grape was plentiful or in the years when the export bottleneck was experienced.
