The syntactic peculiarities of linguistic texts

Summary/Abstract: The article presents the results of the research of syntactic means of expression of scientific style theoretical postyle texts. The results were obtained by having analyzed more than two thousand sentences taken from two texts of linguistic genres. Quantitative and qualitative methods of analysis were used. The aim of the article was to analyze the realization of syntactic structures in linguistic texts and to determine their functioning differences in the genres of monographs and articles. The parameter data of the types of sentences, their structures and sentence length are compared with the common data of scientific style and Lettish articles. It is defined, that frequency of simple sentences used in linguistic texts differs from scientific style data. All types of complex sentences are realized, especially frequent sentences without conjunctions. The parameters of sentence structure, especially most frequently used 9-17 word sentences, reveal expression originality of linguistic texts. It depends on the components of epistemic situations. It would be possible to explain more complicated structure of sentences in articles and simplier in monographs by the differences between separate objects of scientific works or methodology as well as the aim of the authors to take into consideration the addressee as an important factor of scientific communication.
