Contribution of Serbian Poets to the Deification of Josip Broz Tito

Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the role of Serbian poets in the glorification of Josip Broz Tito and the creation of his charisma. In a time of general immorality and obsequiousness, poets, instead of being the conscience of society, were often the first to fawn on the tyrant. Hundreds of famous poets and thousands of amateur poets deified the leader and made him immortal in their poems. In return they were granted status, recognition and received benefits from the regime. This sick symbiosis reached its peak at the time of Tito's death when in one day a thousand of these types of poems were written. Several famous poems of Serbian poets are included in the appendix.
