Summary/Abstract: The essay talks about the sunset (aksam, magrib) as a mystical idiom. The sunset or the dusk is border line between night and day. Qurs r’an describes it as “the alternation of day and night”, which turns this everyday phenomena into an “Ayat” or a sign testifying to the existencs ce of God. According to the Islamic tradition, the Judgment Day will occur at sunset. Besides its sacred meaning, it has other semantic meas anings too. It is often a topic in art, especially in painting and poetry. On the other hand, the science does not see anything mystical in the sunset phenomena, but just another natural and meteorological occurrence. The sunset has a special meaning in Islam during Ramadan as the time when the believers break their fast.
