Summary/Abstract: The article compares the outcomes of three national representative surveys and three surveys representative for the segregated Romani quarters, all of them conducted in the first half of 2011. There are two major research topics: the experienced extended sojourn abroad, and the attitudes towards such a long term stay in the near future. Keeping in mind the methodological limitations of studying „emigration“ in the country of origin „here and now“, it turns out that there are four main states of emigration experience both about of the Bulgarian population and Romani people: Germany, Greece, Italy and Spain. Unlike the data considering the experience, the United Kingdom seems to be the new aim of the potential emigrant flows, ranging on third place right after Germany and Spain. Looking at the pull factors, the already existing network of Bulgarian friends and relatives (diaspora), and the language competence seem to be the leading determinants of the individual choice. However, working against higher payment is the main reason about the extended sojourn both as an experience and as intentions.
