Summary/Abstract: Globalization is supported by the nation state from which it derives its meaning and existence. Arguments of economic globalization, with their image of a border-free world economy, have neglected some deeper processes by which powerful states have changed themselves the rules of the game, including the national defense and security. Member nations have a considerable variety and adaptability - both regarding the reaction to changes and the ability to mediate and coordinate domestic and international connections.
