Summary/Abstract: Taking as a starting point the etymological definition of words borrowed from French, this paper aims to illustrate the difficulties encountered in determining the etymology, either unique or multiple, for a corpus of words beginning with letter A of two lexicographic sources (DILF and DELR). At the same time, the parallel analysis of both dictionaries will allow us to present the differences in the methodological structuring and etymological definition of French-origin words according to the various linguistic and extra-linguistic factors considered by lexicographers.
