Summary/Abstract: In 2006 the Federation of Jewish Communities in the Czech Republic (hereinafter ‘the Federation’), in close collaboration with the Prague Jewish Community, decided to launch a process directed towards the presentation of an application for the awarding of a grant for the project Revitalization of Jewish Sites in the Czech Republic as part of the integrated operational programme offered by the Czech Ministry of Culture. At the outset, the most suitable localities and sites were selected on the basis of their historical and heritage value and the topics of future permanent exhibitions were set out. In total, 15 sites were chosen in ten settlements of historic Jewish communities in Bohemia (Bøeznice [Bresnitz], Polná, Brandýs [Brandeis], Jièín [Jitschin], Úštìk [Auscha], Nová Cerekev [Neu-Zerekwe], Plzeò [Pilsen]), Moravia (Mikulov [Nikolsburg], Boskovice [Boskowitz]) and Silesia (Krnov [Jägerndorf]). The majority are synagogues although they also include Jewish school buildings and rabbinic houses.
