Summary/Abstract: Some psychological theories about leadership styles are reviewed. According to the traditional classification the main styles of leadership are authoritarian, democratic and liberal These styles are analyzed on the basis of differentiation criteria as: power and responsibility, tasks' distribution, communication processes, advantages and disadvantages. Another typology concerns two main dimensions of leadership behavior: work orientation and people orientation. Some theorists relate leadership to decision-making processes. According to another model, there are two types of leadership behavior — transactional and transformational The transactional type is traditional and it concerns tasks, roles and control, while the transformational is more creative and motivating subordinates. These two styles are influenced both by personality characteristics and the concrete situation.
