Summary/Abstract: This paper explores the representation of Bosnia and Herzegovina under the Austro-Hungarian occupation in international and world exhibitions held towards the end of the 19th Century. By analysing exhibition pavilions, built in eclectic styles with dominant elements of Islamic architecture, in addition to exotic exhibition settings, I shall underline the elements of Orientalism in the presentation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. This paper will attempt to show, in the manner of an orientalised image of its occupied territories, how the Austro- Hungarian administration emphasised its “enlightenment role” in the development of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as a successful “cultural mission” led by Benjamin von Kàllay.
