Literary Studies as an Interdisciplinary Undertaking (trans. Bogdan Balicki)

Summary/Abstract: This article is founded on a conceptual model of present-day society as a functionally diversified media-based society, with science and literature as partial systems. The author discusses the grounds for changes in literary studies expected in the years to come, and proposes interdisciplinary literary studies modelled on the social sciences. Disciplines such as media studies have not overlooked the literary text. Similarly, literary studies need professionalism and specialised research institutions, as well as a broader presence in the media in order to compete with the dynamism of other disciplines.
