Summary/Abstract: On 29 August 1936, under the pretext of a so-called "governmental restructuration", Nicolae Titulescu was dismissed as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania. The dismissal of Nicolae Titulescu had three fundamental causes: the collective security policy he promoted, which was not topical any longer due to the shift in the balance of forces in Europe; the wish of King Charles the 2nd to enforce his regimen of personal authority; a link appreciated as being "too tight" between Romania and the Soviet Union. The event echoed in the Romanian and foreign press of the time. The dismissal of Titulescu represented the dawn of a stage in international relations, which relied on the collective security system and international law. The period that followed witnessed aggressive actions of the revisionist states and the conciliatory efforts of Western powers, the acme being the outburst of the Second World War.
