CAN NEEDS ANALYSIS IMPROVE MOTIVATION?

Summary/Abstract: The study demonstrates the importance of a good understanding of learner variables in TEFL programs at university level. The paper presents a small-scale study carried out for two years (2005–2006 and 2006-2007) with the aim of showing the relationship between the motivation and the students’ perception of their needs. The article presents the results of the Needs Analysis Questionnaire compiled and carried out at the English Language Department and some language learning materials devised with the purpose of making undergraduates aware of their real needs and wants and presents conclusions and implications that can be used to improve language learning.
