Summary/Abstract: The need to focus teaching and the learning activities of a foreign language on the student demand a greater attention to be paid to those strategies of learning which would lead to communication as well as an orientation of the teacher’s proposals with respect to the individual characteristics of their students. The present paper presents the results of questionnaires applied to TUCN students at different study levels in order to see the way they perceive their learning strategies, the way they apply these, whether they are aware of their passing on towards specific communication strategies in the foreign language. The paper also presents details regarding several learning variables contributing to the student’s decision to take on the learning of a foreign language. The paper highlights the fact that the poly student elaborates their own syllabus which they do not always observe, either due to its disagreement to that of their teacher’s, or due to other disturbing factors. While learning and later while uttering those learned, systematic errors and occasional mistakes are present, mirroring the learning effort. The individual differences constitute variables determined by the age, gender, previous experience in learning a language, the level of knowledge of their mother tongue, personality traits, attitude and motivation, level of intelligence, learning style, strategies applied and sociological preferences such as the preference for learning only from their teachers or/and from colleagues as well. These individual differences are interrelated and influence the progress rate, performance and learning quality positively or negatively.
