Summary/Abstract: The specific features of Croatian poetic Romanticism can be seen in the efforts of the poets to adjust their style to the creative trends of the Romantic literary formation and in their endeavours to find original stylistic solutions. These two trends are visible in the solutions of metonymic and metaphoric expression and in the use of connotative attributes and poetic comparisons. An original solution - when compared with other Croatian Romanticists - was that by Luka Botić who used metonymic and metaphoric speech in an interesting way. In a number of cases he achieved lexical combinations which reached an independence of their own in the happy moments of his poetry and suggested a whole range of new possibilities (metaphor). In his practice Botić showed how attributes, above all the connotative ones, can contribute to "ornamental" speech and adjectival style. By means of original comparisons and other elements of his style Botić reached a measure of Romantic maturity.
