Summary/Abstract: The focus of this essay is Kathy Acker’s 1982 novel Great Expectations. The text attempts to make a reading of that extraordinary work by focusing on its playful and Protean nature and by “mapping out” the rhetorical strategies Acker uses in her response to various oppressive discourses of power.
