Summary/Abstract: General comprehensive schools of the XXI century as well as any other organizations are influenced by rapidly changing contemporary society. They are constantly facing new challenges. One of them is to decrease the number of students having social integration problems and give “a second chance” of returning back to school to those students, who have dropped out of the formal education system. In this context the particular importance is given to the problem of school students' socialization. The research, which is carried out by different authors in Lithuania and in other countries, makes it obvious that one of the possibilities to solve this problem, is a school organization culture, which would create favourable conditions and enable to improve student socialization. At present the problems of socialization of students of general comprehensive schools are given a lot of attention. They have been widely discussed by researchers representing different fields of inquiry, but we could not find publications dealing with the problems of using a school organization culture as an instrument for improving student socialization in comprehensive schools. In this paper we analyze a school organization culture viewing it as a three level system (Schein, 1990), which has connections with three socialization stages (Steers, 1994). In this context the following research questions arise: Are there are any connections of school organization culture and student socialization found? Is it possible to use a school organization culture as an instrument for the improvement of student socialization? The aim of this paper is to reveal the organizational culture of the general comprehensive school as a possible instrument of improving student socialization at school. The object of research presented in this paper is a general comprehensive school organizational culture analyzed from the student socialization perspective. The research methods used are a method of research literature analysis and a case study. In this paper we present the analysis of the organizational culture of the general comprehensive school, the levels of which are viewed as a functioning system of interconnected elements. The matrix of the value system, which is important both for the organization culture and for a socialization process, is presented and analyzed. The research data of the case study presented in this paper, reveals the possibility to use the school organization culture as an instrument for the improvement of student socialization.
